Abstract:

Reservoirs employ water management strategies to boost oil recovery and ensure proper water conformance, mitigating adverse effects. Traditional methods often falter in later stages when treatment efficacy diminishes and diagnosing water production sources becomes challenging. Early adoption of reservoir management strategies is crucial for curbing unwanted water production.

In oil reservoirs, as pressure drops below the bubble point, oil releases organics like asphaltenes, which coat rocks, reducing porosity and rendering them oil-wet. This facilitates water breakthrough, prompting many past treatments to prematurely seal water-producing zones, abandoning potential oil reserves. Our goal is to offer reliable technology capable of cleansing carbonate reservoirs, aiming to reduce the Water Oil Ratio.

Our innovative fluid system comprises stabilized chemicals suspended in a liquid phase, defying gravity and remaining dispersed within the carrier fluid. The system's properties—shape, size, material, and concentration—determine its efficacy for specific applications. Through core flood experiments, we evaluated its impact on residual oil/water saturation and assessed Water Oil Ratio to determine relative permeabilities.

This non-damaging technology, temperature-independent and validated in over 200 wells across Latin America, showcases significant reductions in water production and Water Oil Ratio, alongside enhanced hydrocarbon output, without harming oil-producing zones.
